By opting to cut Miles, the Bengals are now left with Shawn Williams, Reggie Nelson, Taylor Mays and George Iloka at safety. It’s unfortunate to see the veteran Miles go, but this was a move that had to be made with only five healthy linebackers, and that could be four if Vontaze Burfict were to miss tonight as he recovers from a leg injury, though he practiced fully on Saturday and is expected to play tonight.

Schaffer, a 6-0, 232 lb LB from the University of Cincinnati, is a first-year NFL player in 2013 because he was not on an NFL roster in 2012, despite playing with the Jacksonville Jaguars for the entire preseason before ultimately being let go during final roster cuts.

He played in all four Cincinnati preseason games and led the team in tackles (20), with one sack and one interception.
