The Bengals originally placed Scott on the PUP list prior to final roster cuts in order to get down to the 53-man roster limit, while also keeping a hold of Scott in the even they needed him in case there was an injury to one of the Bengals other RBs.

The Bengals have brought back Scott on a one-year deal this offseason worth a base salary of $715,000 and cap number of $791,250.

For a back that’s averaged 4.6 yards on his first 135 NFL carries, that’s a pretty good deal, despite tearing his ACL last year. But he was likely kept as insurance for Giovani Bernard or one of the other three backs on the roster.

Or maybe, Scott’s rehab isn’t going well and they know that even if the do need him, he won’t be able to answer the call, and decided now was as good a time as there will be to wave goodbye to the former sixth-round draft pick out of Abilene Christian.
