The Cincinnati Bengals are still pretty thin at the linebacker position, despite promoting J.K. Schaffer from the practice squad yesterday, and it’s unclear as to whether the team is continuing to monitor the status of former starting weakside linebacker Thomas Howard.

If they are still monitoring his progress from his rehabilitation of the torn ACL he suffered last year, there not the only team watching him:

Even if the Bengals don’t re-sign Howard, it would still be nice to see the 7-year veteran get a chance to show he’s still got plenty left to offer a team in need of LB depth. The Falcons need another body their after placing WLB Sean Weatherspoon on the short-term I.R. list.

If they too pass on him, it’s a clear indicator something’s not right with his knee.
