In light of today’s Packers – Bengals matchup, we talked with Dan Dahlke of Lombardi Ave, the Packers’ Fansided page. They offered a great look at the strengths and weaknesses of the Packers, and helped give us a good idea of how today’s matchup of playoff teams from a year ago will go down.
1. What has been the biggest surprise and disappointment for the Packers so far?
The biggest disappointment of the Packers’ season so far has been the poor play of their secondary. The Packers rank 30th in the league in pass defense and their secondary still has yet to force a turnover. Heading into the season, Green Bay believed their cornerback group was a position of strength on the team, but so far, teams have passed pretty easily on the Packers defense.
Granted, they’re dealing with a number of injuries at both cornerback and safety, so once they get Morgan Burnett and Casey Hayward back maybe things will improve.

One pleasant surprise has been the great play of rookie left tackle David Bakhtiari. After losing starting tackle Bryan Bulaga for the season in training camp, the Packers have been relying on Bakhtiari to step up at left tackle. So far, the fourth-round pick has held up admirably against top pass rushers like Aldon Smith and Brian Orakpo. Hopefully, he can continue improving as the season progresses.
