Bengals cornerback Brandon Ghee has never managed to stay healthy enough to get onto the field consistently for the team that drafted him in the third round of the 2010 NFL Draft. But Sunday saw him play him play 23 snaps, most of which were while covering Browns receiver Davone Bess, who came in to the game with 10 third-down catches, but Ghee allowed just two catches overall, with just one of which was a third down conversion.
Needless to say, with Dre Kirkpatrick being a disappointment thus far, it would be a nice boost if Ghee can stay healthy and provide some depth behind Leon Hall, Adam Jones and Terence Newman in the event one of them goes down with injury.
“It was fun to play again. I need to improve on my technique and keep playing,” Ghee said. “I’m not in football shape. I don’t care if you sit out for just two weeks, you’re not going to be in football shape. It’s just different out there, especially when you play special teams and defense. There’s a lot involved … I’m extremely sore.”
Sunday marked just the eighth career game Ghee has played in, and if he stay healthy for the remainder of the season, perhaps he can begin to live up to being a top-100 draft pick in ’10. Concussions have been the biggest detriment to his career, as he was inactive for Games 1-3 due to a concussion. He also missed the final two preseason games due to a concussion.
