The Cincinnati Bengals came out of Paul Brown Stadium with a win against the undefeated New England Patriots. The Bengals had a huge win against the Packers, and the next week suffered an embarrassing loss to the Cleveland Browns. Here are six aspects to this game that will determine this game, allowing the Bengals to not have another let down loss.
1. Stopping Fred and CJ
While the Bengals have a stout defense, both Fred Jackson and CJ Spiller are one of the best running back duos in the league and could easily open a game up. With the Bills leaning on young quarterback Thad Lewis, the Bills will rely heavily on the run game. Not only that, but the Bengals must be aware of screen passes and when the running backs go into the flat as a security blanket for Lewis. The Bengals had a few times where New England used the same method, and if it were not for some dropped passes or errant throws, it could have hurt them.
Thankfully, though, they also sniffed out some of those plays. Mike Zimmer should be aware of this and use it to his own advantage to take them out of the game.
2. Have a Balanced Attack
Against the New England Patriots, the Bengals had a much more balanced attack. Dalton flourished, even though he threw a bad interception. Overall, the Bengals had 27 pass attempts and 39 rushing attempts. However, six of those runs were from Dalton, so there was an equal 33 number of attempts on each side. The Bengals will have to continue to be balanced instead of trying to be a passing juggernaut. A running back can be a quarterback’s best friend, and that’s what Giovani Bernard and Benjarvus Green-Ellis can do.
