The Bengals are still pretty thin at the linebacker position, and despite signing Michael Boley recently off of the street, they’re only playing two LBs for more than 20 snaps per game (Bufict and Maualuga) and James Harrison is just getting 8-12 snaps per game. Sufficeth to say, another LB on the roster would be welcome, especially with Rey Maualuga dealing with a hamstring injury that forced him from Sunday’s game vs the Lions.

If they do decide to add another LB, it won’t be former starting weakside linebacker Thomas Howard, according to Pro Football Talk:

The Falcons announced they had signed linebacker Thomas Howard, waiving linebacker Jamar Chaney to create the roster spot.

Howard was playing well for the Bengals when he tore his ACL last September. They worked him out before the start of the regular season, but didn’t sign him.

It’s still nice to see the 7-year veteran get a chance to show he’s still got plenty left to offer a team in need of LB depth.
