Veteran cornerback Antoine Winfield signed a one-year deal with the Seattle Seahawks in April, only to be one of the final roster cuts prior to the start of the NFL Season. Rather than sign with another team and learn their defensive scheme while getting acclimated to a new team as the season began, Winfield opted to retire.

He appears ready to end his brief retirement and try to make one more run at a Super Bowl ring, but no one has signed him to this point. There were rumors floating around after Leon Hall went down that the Bengals were in contact with Winfield, but it’s unclear as to how much interest there may have been between the two sides.

Winfield was one of the best cornerbacks in the NFL last year, and to think his play has fallen off a cliff then is vastly overstated.

While the 36-year-old is likely near the end of his career, he still can make a positive impact for a Super Bowl contender like the Bengals appear to have become.
