Overcoming the Browns: 3 Bengals that Stepped Up

Last Sunday looked on paper like it might be a low scoring game, well it wasn’t and boy did this team need that win headed into the bye.  Thanks to the defense and special team the Bengals took care of business extending their lead in the AFC North to 2.5 games.   Now it’s time for the team to rest up and make a run at the #2 spot in the playoffs and secure a first round bye.  The Colts, who have to come to the Jungle still, are clinging to it now at 7-3 and the Patriots only have a half game up on the Bengals for the #2 spot.  Much like last Sunday the defense and special teams will have to play a big role going forward unless this offense finds an identity over the bye. Here are 3 players that stepped up against Cleveland inching the Bengals closer to a franchise first 3rd consecutive playoff berth.

OLB – Vontaze Burfict

Taze has been such a welcome presence on the Bengals defense while providing the mean streak that this team has been lacking.  He gave another all-out smashing performance against the Browns on Sunday with 15 tackles, 1 forced fumble, 1 fumble recovery, and the touchdown.   The once un-draft able avoid at all costs player has become the season leader in tackles and a one the field leader in Cincinnati
