The Denver Broncos are optimistic Knowshon Moreno will start Sunday vs the Kansas City Chiefs after coach Jack Del Rio announced Moreno did “all of his work in practice” during Friday’s session and is listed as probable for Sunday.
Moreno had a career-most 37 carries last week against New England, for a career-most 224 yards. He’s not the flashiest player in fantasy football, but he’s been one of the most consistent performers throughout the year, and as long as he’s going to play, he needs to be treated like a high RB-2.
However, that doesn’t mean you shouldn’t consider playing backup Montee Ball, especially if you’re hurting for running back or someone to fill-in your flex spot. Last week, Ball ran seven times for 40 yards and caught three passes for 17 yards in Sunday’s 34-31 overtime loss to the Patriots, and the belief this week is that he’ll receiver more touches in order to prevent Moreno from further injuring that ankle.
And while Ball may not get a lot of production this week, he will going forward if the Broncos win Sunday and get a comfortable lead in the AFC West. At that point, there will be less pressure to keep pounding Moreno 25+ times per week, and Ball should get more touches going forward to help establish another threat in the Broncos backfield.
