The Minnesota Vikings don’t have anything to play for in Week 17, and Head Coach Leslie Frazier announced on Friday that running back Matt Asiata will start the season finale against the Detroit Lions. Adrian Peterson is doubtful to play because of injuries to both his groin and foot, and Toby Gerhart has already been ruled out with a hamstring injury.
Frazier said that Peterson would be out there if the team felt he was ready, but it looks like Peterson has played his final snap for the 2013 season. It’s the last home game at the Metrodome and that’s one Peterson doesn’t want to miss.
It would be be Asiata’s second career start and second in three games. With Gerhart and Peterson out two weeks ago against the Eagles, Asiata carried the ball 30 times for 51 yards and three touchdowns in a 48-30 win.
