Mike Munchak Hired to Be Pittsburgh Steelers Offensive Line Coach

Former Tennessee Titans coach Mike Munchak has accepted the position of offensive line coach with the Pittsburgh Steelers, according to John McClain of the Houston Chronicle:

Munchak has had several interviews since being fired last week after three seasons as head coach in Tennessee, including talking to the Cleveland Browns about becoming their head coach.

He also interviewed with the Houston Texans about becoming their offensive line coach. Steelers head coach Mike Tomlin fired Jack Bicknell Jr. after just one season as the o-line coach.

That seems like a great move now that they’ve secured the services of arguably the best o-line coach in the NFL.

The Steelers offensive line has routinely been among the worst in the NFL recently, but the play-making ability of quarterback Ben Roethlisberger has helped to mask their weaknesses.

Munchak was the first o-lineman selected and the eighth-overall pick by the Houston Oilers. in the 1982 NFL Draft. From there, he went on to have a hall of fame career and was selected to 10 All-Pro teams and made nine Pro Bowl appearances.

This is a huge pickup for the Steelers, and with Pro bowl center Maurkice Pouncey returning next year from a torn ACL, this could become one of the better o-lines Roethlisberger has had in his career.
