Hyde would be an instant upgrade to Green-Ellis. Hyde is a little bit bigger than Green-Ellis and tends to run with a lot more decisiveness.
He not only attacks the line of scrimmage with a lot more aggressiveness, but also has the ability to cut and change direction when there is no hole.
I have seen Green-Ellis run into a pile at the line of scrimmage too many times. I don’t believe that will happen on a regular basis with Hyde in the backfield. Hyde doesn’t have amazing speed or quickness, but that’s why we have Gio.
What Hyde will provide is very good size and power at the running back position.
The Bengals only have Green-Ellis under contract for one more season. I believe it’s time we start looking ahead for a complimentary back to Bernard. Cedric Peerman and Rex Burkhead are most likely not going to be the answer going forward.
Like I said earlier, the chances of the Bengals selecting a running back so early in the draft are slim to none. But, if Carlos Hyde is the best player available when they pick in the second round, then they should highly consider making him their pick.
