Cincinnati Bengals rookie running back Giovani Bernard was one of the finalists for the NFL Offensive Rookie of the Year Award.
It wasn’t meant to be though, as he’s been beaten out by Eddie Lacy of the Green Bay Packers for that honor:

If you just look at the total numbers for the year, Bernard was only fourth among rookies in rushing yards (695), but his 4.1 ypc was tied for first among backs with over 120 carries.
He also finished second among all rookies in receptions (56) and led all rookie backs in receiving yards (514).
When the ball was in Bernard’s hands, he was as good at making plays as any rookie this year, and he’ll be one of the best RBs in the NFL going forward.
Bernard was one of several nominations for NFL rookie of the year. Joining he and Lacy was were Bills linebacker Kiko Alonso, Rams running back Zac Stacy, Chargers wide receiver Keenan Allen, Steelers running back Le’Veon Bell and Vikings wide receiver Cordarrelle Patterson.
“It might as well be me,” Bernard said prio to the awards show via Bengals.com. “They’re all great players. I think we all had pretty good years. It’s just nice to see guys coming out of college and having such an impact right away.”
Bernard need not worry, as there should be several awards in his future if he improves off his amazing rookie campaign.
