Three more players will hit the free agency market after the New Orleans Saints announced they are are releasing safety Roman Harper, cornerback Jabari Greer and defensive end/linebacker Will Smith:
The #Saints announce they have released S Roman Harper, DE Will Smith and CB Jabari Greer. They won’t re-sign Jonathan Vilma.

Sounds like the release of Roman Harper was particularly hard on Sean Payton. Key defensive starter, has been there since day 1 — Ian Rapoport (@RapSheet) February 12, 2014
Harper is set to count $3.6 million against the cap and will hopefully be replaced by a healthy Kenny Vaccaro next year. Smith has a $10.4 million base salary and $13.9 million cap number, so he’s as good as gone.
Greer was limited to only eight games this year before suffering an ACL injury against the San Francisco 49ers at home back in November. He’s been sidelined ever since and was set to make around $4.4 million in 2014.
Greer finished the year with 30 total tackles and one interception. He finished with 52 tackles and three interceptions in 2012
As for Vilma, it was never likely that the team would resign the aging vet. He’s played in just 12 games over the past two seasons thanks to injuries and suspension and he has shown clear signs of slowing down and may have hit the end of the road,m at least as a starting NFL linebacker.
