Cincinnati missed out on Cleveland center Alex Mack (he was hit with the transitional tag), but he would have been well out of the Bengals price range anyway.

T.J. Ward is one of the league’s better run-stuffing safeties and may slip into a price bracket the Bengals are willing to pay with big names like Byrd taking top dollar on the market. Ward is an obvious fit across from Reggie Nelson as the physical run defender the secondary needs.

None of this is to suggest George Iloka was bad last year, but a quality upgrade with some free cap space is not a bad move for the Bengals to consider.
