Should the Cincinnati Bengals Target Antonio Cromartie?

Most of the Cincinnati Bengals fan base knows that addressing the cornerback position should be a consideration this offseason, and the team may be interested in Antonio Cromartie now that he has been released by the New York Jets.

During the draft is an ideal target time for that matter, but aging veterans are always questionable. Terence Newman and Adam Jones won’t be there for long, and maybe adding Antonio Cromartie to the mix can shore up some depth in the backend with Taylor Mays and Brandon Ghee on the cusp. Remember when the Bengals beat the New York Jets 49-9 in October?

Cromartie was on the bad end of two Andy Dalton to A.J. Green deep passes in that crushing defeat. Would his presence on the Bengals defense hurt or heal some of the woes? Or can he sure up some technique issues in this part of his career with the new defensive back assistant Vance Joseph in town?

These questions should be looming around if the Bengals were to hire the savvy veteran. With that in mind, this Bengals organization still needs to add a young athletic corner from the 2014 NFL Draft in May. Depth is the key for the Cincinnati Bengals fourth run at the postseason this year.

Even though Cromartie had a down year in 2013, a stable organization and stellar coaching staff can help him out these next few years so he can improve as a veteran in this league. Cromartie responded to the move and looks forward to the challenge of playing elsewhere:

Dre Kirkpatrick will be passed the torch this upcoming season, but once again, you can never have too much depth in the National Football League. Someone will give Antonio Cromartie a chance upon his release from the New York Jets.
