Watching the second half of the Cincinnati Bengals second preseason game one thing become clear, no depth at defense or offense.
We saw a 3rd and 20 get converted with a 25 yard dump pass. The 2nd and 3rd string guys could not tackle, they took bad routes to the ball carrier, and couldn’t get pressure to the quarterback. This is not what I was hoping to see at home from this team.
We saw a great pass that was on the money from QB Andy Dalton to Mohammed Sanu that went 43 yards for the first touchdown of the game. Sanu picked up the slack from where Marvin Jones left it before his injury.
Dalton went 8 for 8 with 144 yards and that touchdown pass to Sanu. His second straight game of showing consistency, signs of better accuracy, and better decision making.
The first string defense looked solid once again and with only allowing a field goal in the first quarter, looked strong. It was all downhill from there. The Bengals only got a field goal in the second quarter and that did it for the scoring, at least on the Cincinnati Bengals side. Jets went on to 22 unanswered points from the second quarter on.
Tyler Wilson ended up banged up, with a head injury and now looks like the Bengals are down 2 quarterbacks in 2 weeks. Matt Scott looked ok early but quickly faded throughout the game. Jeremy Hill ended up going down and setting his progress back. Darqueze Dennard went down as well with a hip injury.
The Cincinnati Bengals are losing some key parts in the preseason, if that continues than we may need to reevaluate the Bengals and where they should stand in the division. We should continue to keep an eye through the rest of the preseason as these injuries improve and new ones appear.
