BREAKING Brian Kelly will be staying at Notre Dame, a source just told CBS.

The Eagles appear to be focused on hiring Gus Bradley as their next head coach, as the Eagles were reportedly down to Kelly and Bradley, but still have several interviews left.

Brian Kelly didn’t last more than three years at his previous coaching stints at the University of Cincinnati or Central Michigan, and after leading the Notre Dame Fighting Irish to the BCS National Companionship game in his third season, he may be ready to make another move, this time being to the NFL:

Let talks between Brian Kelly and Eagles commence. Kelly is due back in country today to attend Walter Camp dinner in New Haven tonight.

The Eagles are also reportedly interviewing Seahawks Defensive Coordinator Gus Bradley today for their head-coaching vacancy. He’s been the Seahawks’ defensive coordinator since 2009, and the team’s defense allowed a league-low 15.3 points per game this season.

If neither of these men are hired,  the Eagles are scheduled to interview Bengals Offensive Coordinator Jay Gruden on Monday.

Geoff Mosher of Eagles Talk believes Bradley is the favorite:

Bradley is believed to be the top choice of the Eagles, who also plan to interview Bengals offensive coordinator Jay Gruden and Colts offensive coordinator Bruce Arians in the coming days.

In othe coaching news, the Indianapolis Colts announced this morning that special teams coordinator Marwan Maalouf has been relieved of his duties.

The latest news on the NFL head-coaching carousel is the biggest to come out this week, as Chris Mortenson and Adam Schefter are reporting that the Philadelphia Eagles have interviewed Notre Dame Head Coach Brian Kelly for the teams’ vacant HC job.

There is mutual interest on both sides, and the Eagles will reportedly have Kelly in for a second interview at some point after they originally interviews Kelly on Tuesday following the Fighting Irish loss to the Alabama Crimson Tide in the BCS national title game.

Kelly led Notre Dame to a 12-1 record and an appearance in the BCS National Championship game. The Fighting Irish became the first team to start the season unranked in the Associated Press poll and advance to the BCS National Championship game. He has a 199-68-2 overall record in his 22 seasons as head coach.

There are now reports that the Cleveland Browns had an interview earlier this week with Penn State Head Coach Bill O’Brien. Jason LaCanfora reported last night that he believes the former New England Patriots offensive coordinator will leave Penn State for an NFL job and that it will likely be with the Browns or Philadelphia Eagles.

The Kansas City Chiefs are on the verge of hiring former Philadelphia Eagles Head Coach Andy Reid as the franchise’s next head coach. They have the #1 overall pick in the 2013 NFL Draft, and Reid is expected to take over complete control of football operations.

Reid skipped his trip to visit the Arizona Cardinals last night, so it would appear a deal is close, and could be announced as early as today. Jason LaCanfora reports if  Reid does end up taking that job, current Chiefs GM Scott Pioli will be fired.

Oregon Head Coach Chip Kelly is as hot as any NFL head-coaching candidate there is right now, and despite not having an ounce of prior coaching experience in the NFL, Kelly has at least three interviews lined up. He will reportedly interview with the Cleveland Browns following the teams’ Fiesta Bowl game vs. the Kansas State Wildcats. OTher reports have him scheduled to interview with the Cleveland Browns and Buffalo Bills over the weekend. Ian Rapoport of the NFL Network is reporting Kelly will not insist on total control of football operations in interviews with NFL teams.

He won’t be the only college coach named Kelly to draw interest from NFL teams, as Notre Dame Head Coach Brian Kelly is beginning to draw interest though it’s unclear as to how much and even if he’s willing to leave the Irish.

The Chicago Bears interviewed New Orleans Saints offensive coordinator Pete Carmichael Jr. for the team’s head-coaching vacancy on Wednesday night.

There are reports of at least two NFL teams having interest in hiring Washington Redskins Defensive Coordinator Jim Haslett.

Detroit Lions GM Martin Mayhew hopes to renegotiate or extend QB Matthew Stafford’s contract this offseason.
