The Dallas Cowboys narrowly missed out on the NFC east Division title and the playoffs in 2012, so a solid draft could help them ascend into the postseason in 2013.

The offensive line could use help in pass protection as well as run blocking, as quarterback Tony Romo has shown he’s good enough at scrambling to make up for many deficiencies on the line, but the enigmatic QB can shoulder only so much before he makes a game-costing turnover. Dallas could opt to give Romo another receiving threat with Miles Austin always injured, Jason Witten aging, and Dez Bryant being Dez Bryant.

It’s also worth noting that with Defensive Coordinator Monte Kiffin coming in and installing a new 4-3 defense, the Cowboys may look to draft a true 4-3 defensive lineman or linebacker.

According to Dallascowboys.com writer Bryan Broaddus, the Cincinnati Bengals recently held a workout with free agent running back Felix Jones. The former Arkansas Razorback rushed rushed for 402 yards and three touchdowns on 111 carries for the Cowboys in 2012. For his career, Jones has totaled 2,728 yards and 11 TDs in five NFL seasons. He and current Oakland Raiders RB Darren McFadden were a star tandem at Arkansas, and both were expected to have productive NFL careers after they were both drafted in the first-round in 2008, but both have been injury-prone and unable to live up to their potential to this point.

Jones is very quick and elusive back, as evidenced by his career 4.8 yards-per-carry average and 8.3 yards-per-catch. Don’t expect the Bengals to sign him before the draft though. He’ll be a backup plan in case they fail to nab one of the backs they’ve currently targeted. North Carolina’s Giovanni Bernard, South Carolina’s Marcus Lattimore have already worked out in front of Bengals coaches and scouts, and they’ll likely workout several other backs between now and April 25th.

If they are unable to get “their guy” in the draft though, Jones would be a nice backup to BenJarvus Green-Ellis.

ESPN’s Adam Schefter reports the Cowboys are in contract talks with free agent right tackle Eric Winston. Along with Andre Smith and Tyson Clabo, he is one of the best free agent tackles left on the market, and if he does sign with the Cowboys, we could see progress on deals for Smith and Clabo.

The New Orleans Saints have agreed to terms with safety Jim Leonhard. He spent the 2012 season as a backup with the Denver Broncos as he appeared in all 16 games (1 start) while registering 18 tackles and two interceptions.

As JaMarcus Russell attempts his NFL comeback after being labeled one of the biggest busts in the history of the NFL Draft, he announced today that he’s canceled his April 10 Pro Day-style workout. Instead, he’ll work out for teams individually.
