Thursday Reads: Benson, Henry Look Toward Dallas Debuts

RB Chris Perry has been limited in practice this week with a hammy tweak. While he is expected to play Sunday, his injury makes it likely that Dallas will get a dose of Cedric Benson. Benson and his teammates are hopeful he can contribute even though he has barely cracked the playbook.

QB Carson Palmer is still iffy with an elbow injury, and no call has been made as to whether he or backup Ryan Fitzpatrick will go Sunday.

WR Chris Henry is reportedly looking unusually sharp for a guy whose been sitting at home for four weeks.

CB Johnathan Joseph was back in pads yesterday, but only worked out on the sidelines.

The Chickster plays sleuth to solve The Mystery of the Vanishing 2008 Draft Class.

"How much production have they achieved so far in 2008? Zero catches for zero yards from the WRs, who have had only a cup of coffee on the field this year, and zero tackles from the DTs, who have been inactive for all four games. What are the coaches waiting for? When are the wraps gonna come off these guys?Looks to me like the Bengals are going to wait until they’re 1-8 at the Nov. 9 bye to give these guys a chance.I can see developing one or two guys. But four of ‘em?Of the club’s 10 draft picks, only two guys are playing — first-round weakside linebacker Keith Rivers (starter) and sixth-round free safety Corey Lynch (backup).Next to 2005, this could be the biggest draft-class bust in head coach Marvin Lewis’ six seasons."

I think it’s a bit premature to be declaring that, Chick. Marvin Lewis’ point about them being unable to get the ball reliably to their Nos. 1 and 2 receivers, much less a couple rooks, resonates, and like the head coach I never thought Jason Shirley would see the field this year. Pat Sims is another matter, but I expected him to disappoint this season.

Doc gives up again.

So much for Pod Johnson. Ocho Bozo returns. And no one seems to care. Funny how that happens when you are suddenly a mediocre player on an 0-4 team, eh?

Kirk doesn’t buy the rumor that Marvin is close to getting bounced. For the record, I think its pretty unlikely as well, but as I said at the time, nothing surprise me about this team any more.
