The Cincinnati Bengals made some roster moves today, the most prominent of which was signing FB Fui Vakapuna off of the Arizona Cardinals practice squad. Vakapuna was originally drafted by the Bengals in the seventh round last April, but didn’t make the final roster and the team chose to place FB Chris Pressley on its own squad instead. Pressley was signed by the Tampa Bay Bucs last week.
The move increases fans’ apprehension about starting FB Jeremi Johnson, who sprained a knee against Chicago two weeks ago. He’s considered probable for Sunday against Baltimore.
To make room for Vakapuna, the Bengals released backup tackle Scott Kooistra, a seventh-round pick in 2003. With 2009 first-round pick Andre Smith moving toward actually playing — possibly as soon as the Ravens game — the Bengals clearly feel comfortable with their o-line depth. They did, however, ink former Penn State tackle Gerald Cadogan to their practice squad.
Meanwhile, in Baltimore, DT Haloti Ngata has a sprained ankle, but is expected to play next Sunday.
