In the great hierarchy of improbable sightings, there is a unicorn, the Loch Ness Monster, and Andre Smith on the field working out. There are widespread reports that Smith is hovering near 370 pounds and has been lax in his rehab of his injured foot. Marvin Lewis has had to expand his doghouse into two-stories in order to fit Smith in. But fortunately, Smith is now working three-a-days in order to shed some pounds and rehab his foot according to Geoff Hobson. Smith is hoping to play in the final two preseason games and impress enough to get on the field in the season opener.

Smith’s improvement would give a big boost to an offensive line in need of better pass protection. Carson Palmer will be throwing more this season and some of those passes will be long ones aimed at Chad Ochocinco, Terrell Owens, and Antonio Bryant. And quite frankly, Palmer is the one player who the team can’t afford to lose. So let’s hope everyone in front of him – including Smith – is in outstanding shape.

In more upbeat news, Jermaine Gresham agreed to terms and should be at practice tomorrow. Joe Reedy is reporting that it will be a 5-year contract worth $15.85 million. Which is slightly more than I made on this blog post. Slightly.
