A few hours before the Pittsburgh Steelers advanced to their 8th Super Bowl, word broke that Cincinnati’s franchise quarterback, Carson Palmer, might be seeking a trade. Joe Reedy passed along a report from ESPN’s Chris Mortensen that Palmer is willing to retire if the team does not grant his trade request.
If the report is true – and that’s far from certain at this point – you can’t blame Carson. At this point, the team has changed nothing – NOTHING – from a disastrous 4-12 season that included a losing streak that tied a franchise record. No GM has been hired. No scouts have been added. No coordinators have been changed.
One definition of insanity is trying the same thing over and over and expecting a different result. Mike Brown might be insane. But Palmer is trying his best to avoid it.
Perhaps it’s all a ploy to force management’s hand and do something different with the offense. If that’s the case, I support it whole-heartedly. Maybe the report isn’t even true.
If it is, you can’t blame Carson.
He’s just trying to stay sane.
