With the news that Bengals DL coach Jay Hayes flew out of Mobile, Alabama could onlymean he has family there or saying hello to Nick Fairely. It had a strangely similar feeling taking me back a couple years when Andre Smith was getting selected. OL coach Paul Alexander made a surprise visit to check his weight and confirm that he would be our selection. It hasn’t worked out for us so far the last time, but this time would be much different.
Andre Smith always struggled with his weight and Fairley is mostly criticized for effort and being to rough in his tackling. If anyone can motivate him its Zimmer (please see Michael Johnson, Geno Atkins, and Carlos Dunlap) and none of us thought about that before. Lewis even said if they went front seven in the first round they could be very “formidable” up front. Could be smoke and mirrors but in the time of NFL uncertainty, and Mike Brown being a very huge tight wad, I do not envision Mike sending a coach down there just to blow some smoke. Plus he would have sent someone with a higher profile to grab outside media attention. Not our D-line coach only our fans know about.
There is also the fact that Andre Smith seemed like a nice kid, but I personally don’t ever remember seeing him to fired up to play football. Mr. Fairely on the other hand gets criticized by some saying that he is to rough and his big time wrestling tackles won’t work in the NFL. I mean dang seriously just think about this….How many QB’s to you think prayed for this man not to hurt them? How many were legitimately scared and or freaked out during a game? Sure Cam Newton got most of the sizzle for winning the championship. Fairley on the other hand just kept planting people into the ground mostly keeping quiet. Overall most people have Fairley in the top 10 anyways so it wouldn’t be a great reach, but if Miller, Green, or Peterson are on the board then people will laugh at Cincinnati a little longer. I on the other hand think this could very well turn out much better for them this time around. This whole situation never crossed my mind until today, and that is when I had flashbacks. Let me know how you would feel for Big Nasty to be here in Cincinnati? Very curious on everyone’s opinion.
