Hey everyone, C. Byers here. I’d like to announce the new series over next week about the evaluation and breakdown of each player. Every year the Bengals draft some players that may not be common household names. Or for some of us, names that just don’t happen to play in the Big 10, so you’re unfamiliar. So starting Monday I plan on breaking down each one of our picks.
- A.J. Green WR Georgia. #18
- Andy Dalton QB TCU #14
- Dontay Moch LB Nevada #52
- Clint Boling OG Georgia
- Robert Sands S West Virgina
- Ryan Whalen WR Stanford
- Korey Lindsey CB Southern Illinois
- Jay Finley RB Baylor
With a quick look at everyone I have to definitely give this draft an A. The Bengals turned the page on Chad and Carson like they needed to do. Too many times, do the Bengals fail to move on from a players in time. (See Bengals OL) Green is not only the best WR, but the best offensive player in the entire draft. His ability to perform well with any QB throwing to him will really help our team move on.
The next pick, Dalton is a great pick, and my personal choice for a while to replace Carson. If given an opportunity I think this small school signal caller will prove to be one of the biggest steals. Remember Bengals great Kenny Anderson (who also wore 14) came from little Augustana. The one thing that Dalton has now that he never had at TCU, is he will now have one of the most elite WR’s in the game to throw to. Too many times at TCU his WR’s didn’t give him much help, now giving him a star WR he will wow us.
In the third round we grabbed one of the fastest players in the draft. Nevada DE/LB Dontay Moch. I use that term DE/LB literally because that man was everywhere. He would drop into pass coverage, do crazy stunts and blitzes then on the next play put his hand the dirt and be coming off the end. He was the man at Nevada, and nearly every play you didn’t know where he would be coming at you with. This guy at pro days has gone as fast 4.2 (his junior year he ran a 4.18), while at the combine it was a 4.4. When you watch the film on this guy he’s a shorter version of the freak: Jevon Kearse. Why do I say that? Because like Jevon his technique isn’t ready yet but coming to a great DC the technique will get there. I need to stop gushing on him now.. or I won’t have anything else to write about for his profile.
Check back later for part 2 for a brief synopsis of the draft. All the Day 3 prospects.
