Wide Receiver Andre Caldwell was a surprise late scratch before last week’s game against the St. Louis Rams. His absence was reported as a coach’s decision, and it seemed as if Caldwell was being disciplined by the Bengals coaching staff.
Apparently, Caldwell has been dealing with a nagging groin and abdominal injury since training camp. He didn’t tell anyone about this injury until last week when he told Marvin Lewis during Friday’s practice.
In his last three games, Caldwell only made 5 catches for 34 yards, despite being the team’s clear third option at wide receiver. Caldwell has been on the field for 348 of the team’s 532 passing plays. Despite this increased time on the field, he’s only made 37 recpetions for 317 yards this year.
Caldwell says that the injuries have been flaring up recently. He was slowing down in practice on Friday, and Marvin Lewis made Caldwell speak up about what was bothering him.
Caldwell has missed Tuesday’s and Wednesday’s practice already. He explains that “it just got overwhelming”, but he calls himself a gametime decision for the Saturday’s game against the Cardinals.
