Lastest on Bengals DC Zimmer: Buccaneers and Dolphins Both Pursuing

By Editorial Staff

The regular season is over, which means it’s time for the coaching carousel rumors to start circulating. Defensive Coordinator Mike Zimmer and Offensive Coordinator Jay Gruden are some hot topics for this year’s coaching vacancies. Here’s the lastest on Zimmer from this afternoon:’s Paul Dehner Jr.:

"The Buccaneers plan to interview defensive coordinator Mike Zimmer for the head coach position, according to ESPN. Zimmer has been with the Bengals since 2008 and this marked the second time in four years his defense finished in the top seven of the NFL. Zimmer has never been a head coach."

FOX’s Jay Glazer, per Pro Football Talk:

"Jay Glazer of FOX reports that the Dolphins, sensing Fisher will pick the Rams, are now moving on to other candidates.  Per Glazer, the candidates include Falcons offensive coordinator Mike Mularkey (pictured), Bengals defensive coordinator Mike Zimmer, and Packers offensive coorinator Joe Philbin."

There are coaching vacancies with the St. Louis Rams, Miami Dolphins, Kansas City Chiefs, Tampa Bay Buccaneers, Jacksonville Jaguars.

If Zimmer and Gruden both leave, it would have a huge negative impact as far as evaluating and developing all the young players on this current team.
