It was a crazy first day to kickoff the NFL free agency season. Many teams upgraded their rosters to better themselves for the upcoming season, while others saw their own players leave with no compensation. Here are the biggest winners and losers from day 1:
The Bears made the biggest splash of the day by trading two third-round draft picks to get Pro Bowl WR. The move reunitesMarshallwith his former Denver Bronco teammate, QB Jake Cutler. The two of them were one of the most dynamic QB/WR combos while together in Denver, and they’ll look to re-kindle that magic with the Bears. Chicago also signed a quality backup QB in Jason Campbell.
The Buccaneers were the biggest spenders, signing Pro Bowl WR Vincent Jackson, CB Eric Wright, and are very close to signing All-Pro guard Carl Nicks.
The Rams upgraded what was one of the NFL’s worst secondary units by signing Pro Bowl CB Cortland Finnegan to a five-year deal. The move also reunites him with his former coach, Jeff Fisher, whom Finnegan had his best years with.
