The question becomes, what’s next? One of the most obvious needs is at wide receiver. A.J. Green is quickly becoming one of the league’s best, but there is a vacancy across from him. The coaches are said to really like Armon Binns, but another receiver is needed. With the free agent market a little thin at the position, the draft would be the obvious answer, with quality options expected to be available in the early rounds.
Linebacker is another position in flux. Manny Lawson is a free agent, and may not be brought back. Rey Maualuga is still with the team, but due to off-the-field issues, may miss some games due to suspension. There is still the possibility of bringing Lawson back, or another free agent, but the draft holds an intriguing player in Luke Kuechly, if he’s available when the Bengals pick. He can play inside or outside, and could be a great addition.
Reggie Nelson was brought back to man one safety position, but an upgrade is needed at the other. Chris Crocker is still on the team, but most feel that a replacement is needed. Robert Sands and Taylor Mays are on the roster, but they probably aren’t ready to start yet. The draft is short on starting caliber safeties too. This seems to be the one position in need of a free agent signing, but has yet to be addressed at this point.
