Breaking down the Bengals Improved 2012 Running Game

3 of 5

Bernard Scott, who will be splitting carries with Green-Ellis this season is in a contract year and knows that he needs to prove himself this season to have a chance to be either re-signed with Cincinnati or to have a shot the next season with another franchise. Scott is a quick back and has great burst and can get to the edge very nicely. He also has great hands out of the backfield and is very dangerous in space. One of the quickest backs in the NFL, Scott is most definitely a home run threat.

Scott recently called out the offensive line from 2011 saying that the guard play was weak and couldn’t open suitable holes for the backs. Well, that too has been addressed over the off-season. First, the Bengals signed Travelle Wharton to fill a major hole at one of their guard spots. Next, they drafted Kevin Zeitler with their second first round pick in the 2012 draft and are planning on having him step in right away and start at the other guard spot. Both of these guys are very physical and have the capability to push defensive linemen back on their heels. The Bengals should be much more powerful in the trenches this season, so Scott shouldn’t have anything more to complain about.
