Bengals Training Camp: Day 6 Recap: Marvin Jones Shines
By Jason Marcum

Rookie WR Marvin Jones was the star of the day, making several spectacular catches. After slipping to the Bengals in the 5th-round, Jones continues to show why many considered one of the biggest steals of the draft, and his potential alone may allow him to lock-down a roster spot before the first preseason game is played.
Linebacker Dontay Moch was getting snaps at defensive end in nickel defense. After being drafted as a pass rushing specialist in 2011, he was a gameday inactive for every game and is facing a four-game suspension after testing positive for a banned substance. While he was a third-round draft pick last year, his disastrous start to his NFL career will have him firmly on the roster bubble.
The first team wide receivers were AJ Green and Armon Binns again. Binns continues to lock down a roster spot and right now appears the favorite to be the opening day #2 receiver.
DE Robert Geathers is in an interesting situation as he continues to miss practice with an injured knee, as his cap number for the 2012 season is $4.2 million. If he continues to miss practice and lose reps to the surging Carlos Dunlap, as well as veterans Jamaal Anderson and Derick Harvey, he may find himself on the roster bubble going into final cuts. Mike Brown loves saving money, and going with younger, cheaper alternatives is something he’s always looking to do.
CBs Leon Hall and Nate Clements continued to be the first-team CBs, and have been such every day they’ve been healthy. Its safe to assume the Bengals are ready to work Hall back into his full-time role in time for the Monday night opener againstBaltimore. Taylor Mays and Reggie Nelson were the first-team safeties again. Special teams ace Jeromy Miles did get some first team reps at strong safety in place of Taylor Mays.
WR Ryan Whalen had a very good day of practice. The deck is stacked against Whalen making the squad with so many talented receivers on the roster, but a good showing will ensure he’s picked up by another NFL team down the road.
OG Otis Hudson got into a fight with DE Derrick Harvey, but both players were fine and appeared to have had no hard feelings.
K Mike Nugent was back at practice for first time this year.
Pat Sims and Dre Kirkpatrick are the only two remaining players on the active PUP list.
