AFC North Headlines: Steelers RB Rashard Mendenhall and NT Casey Hampton Activated from PUP

In a surprising bit of news, the Steelers have activated RB Rashard Mendenhall and NT Casey Hampton  from the PUP list. Mendenhall was at one point projected to miss all of the 2012 season after having offseason ACL surgery.

The Bengals defeated the Falcons last night, 24-19, and have won their first two preseason games for the first time since 2006.

The Cleveland Browns defeated the Packers, 35-10 last night, and are now 2-0 this preseason and are giving Browns fans a rare glimmer of hope. Rookie QB Brandon Weeden played the first-half and was 12 of 20 for 118 yards and looked much more impressive than last week’s game against the Lions.

Ravens rookies Courtney Upshaw and Bernard Pierce, along with veterans Matt Birk and Ray Lewis, are all expected to make their 2012 preseason debuts tonight against the Lions.

The Steelers left tackle battle between Max Starks and Mike Adams is close to beginning once Starks is fully recovered from a torn anterior cruciate ligament he suffered seven months ago.

Bengals Rookie WR Marvin Jones continued to impress last night as he snagged a 40-yard pass for the second time in back-to-back weeks.

Steelers FB David Johnson and RB John Clay passed through waivers unclaimed and went on IR.
