Scouting the AFC North: Browns’ Trent Richardson Ahead of Schedule, & Steelers’ RB Woes

Browns coach Pat Shurmur stated Sunday that Trent Richardson has made “good progress” in his recovery from an August 9 left knee scope and that the 3rd-overall pick might be ahead of schedule. As of now, his status for opening day is still in question.

Steelers RB Jonathan Dwyer rushed eight times for 43 yards in the team’s second preseason game Sunday night, and may be positioning himself to get a lot of carries during the regular season with injuries to the top-2 backs in Rashard Mendenhall and Isaac Redman. 3rd-stringer Chris Rainey way knocked out of last night’s game with an undisclosed injury, but did return to finish the game

Steelers GM Kevin Colbert did reveal that Mendenhall could be ready to contribute by Week 5 or Week 6 after he’s progressed faster than expected from offseason ACL surgery

Ravens CB Cary Williams recently turned down a three-year, $15 million contract extension, and will instead play out the year under his $1.927 million restricted free agent tender, as he believes he can earn a bigger contract next offseason.

Bengals CB Dre Kirkpatrick has been medically cleared to return from his knee injury and has resumed practicing with the team.

Steelers ILB Stevenson Sylvester will miss 3-4 weeks with a torn MCL.

TE Ben Watson has resumed practicing at Browns training camp after he missed a big chunk of camp with an unspecified injury.
