Morning Headlines: Patriots sign Aaron Hernandez long-term, & Bills Cut Vince Young

The Seahawks have named third-rounder Russell Wilson the Week 1 starting quarterback after he beat out Matt Flynn, whom the team signed to a 3-year, $19 million contract this offseason, including $8 million guaranteed in 2012.

The Bills have cut backup QB Vince Young.

The Patriots have reached an agreement with TE Aaron Hernandez on a long-term contract extension through 2018.

In last night’s preseason game featuring the Panthers and Jets, RB Jonathan Stewart was carted off the field with a right ankle injury in the second quarter, while Jets TE Dustin Keller left the game with a hamstring injury.

Colts WR Austin Collie says that that he plans to continue playing football despite suffering from multiple concussions.

Redskins rookie RB Alfred Morris has been a revelation this preseason as he looks to make a significant impact in the Skins’ backfield.

Terrell Owens has been cut by the Seahawks, ending his brief NFL comeback. He’s free to sign with any NFL team, but its unlikely anyone will take a chance on him until later in the year when a potential playoff team is in desperate need of a wide receiver.

The Ravens have released veteran kicker Billy Cundiff, which will save the team $2.2 million.

The Colts have agreed to a trade for Dolphins CB Vontae Davis for a second-round draft pick.
