According to Jason Garrison, the Bengals have spoke with USC safety T.J. McDonald at the scouting combine. Bengals Defensive Backs Coach Mark Carrier was the one to speak to T.J. at both the Senior Bowl and this weekend’s combine. The Bengals are in dire need of a safety with Nate Clements and Chris Crocker hitting free agency, but they do have 2012 fifth-rounder George Iloka if they believe he can take over alongside Reggie Nelson. There’s also the enigmatic Taylor Mays, who was benched last year in favor of Clements, who was later benched in favor of Crocker. As you can tell, its been a revolving door there, and the Bengals need to find some stability.
They’ll at least need some depth at that position and McDonald could easily be had in the third-fourth round range. Don’t expect him to come in and start right away though.
