The Arizona Cardinals have informed strong safety Adrian Wilson he will be released today. Wilson was set to carry a $4.125 million dollar cap hit, but his release leaves a gaping hole in the back-end of the Cards’ defense. The Pro Bowler spent all 12 seasons with Arizona, playing in 181 games. Last year, he registered 54 tackles, 3 sacks, 1 INT, and 1 forced fumble.
The Carolina Panthers announced that they have released cornerback Chris Gamble, who was set to make $7.9 million in salary in 2013 while counting $10.95 million against the cap. Gamble only played four games last season before suffering a season-ending shoulder injury. Pro Football Focus reported Gamble held quarterbacks to a 45 completion percentage and a 53.3 passer rating against his coverage in 2011, but his age will hurt his market, as he turns 30 years old Monday.
Both of these players will become two of the top defensive backs available, and should get scooped up around the official start of free agency on Tuesday.
