The official start of free agency is here, and the Bengals’ first deal of the day comes in the form of veteran defensive end Robert Geathers:

With Geathers heading into 10th season, he'll become third #Bengals D-lineman to play decade. He'll join LE Eddie Edwards, NT Tim Krumrie

This shouldn’t be looked at as a bad signing until we see the contract details. $6 million last year was way over-priced for a backup defensive lineman, and he’s undoubtedly coming back on a much more salary cap-friendly deal.
Geathers had 3 sacks and 30 tackles last year, and has 33 career sacks. He’ll be entering his tenth season in 2013. His best year came in 2006, when Geathers finished the season with 10.5 sacks. He was drafted in the fourth round (117th overall) of the 2004 NFL Draft by Cincinnati.
