It had appeared that Winfield was set to play a 14th NFL season for the Minnesota Vikings, but they wanted him to reduce his his base salary at $7.25 million for 2013. He tied for the team lead with three interceptions and recorded 114 tackles (83 solo, 12 for loss), while starting 15 games last year. He’s 35, but will still be a great addition to a playoff contender in need of defensive back help.

The Dallas Cowboys have released starting middle linebacker Dan Connor, who is now scheduled to visit the Pittsburgh Steelers. The Steelers weren’t expected to be active in free agency but this would be a quality signing.
