Pittsburgh Steelers cornerback Lewis is considered one of the top cornerbacks on the market, and he’s now on the verge of leaving to sign with the New Orleans Saints:
"The New Orleans Orleans Saints could be closing in on a deal with Pittsburgh Steelers unrestricted cornerback Keenan Lewis, according to a league source. The source said the two sides were “very close” to getting a contract worked out. Lewis, a New Orleans native who prepped at O.P. Walker, is visiting with Saints today."
In addition to being one of the top CBs available, many believe he’ll be one of the biggest sleepers of the 2013 free agent signing period. According to Pro Football Focus, Lewis graded out as the 15h-best run defending CB out of 113 eligible players.
With fellow CBs Cortez Allen and Ike Taylor, Lewis thrived in coverage, especially against the Bengals. With all 3 healthy, Allen allowed just 2 receptions (16 yards) on 6 targets in the Week 7 win at Cincinnati.
In 2011 against Cincinnati, Lewis allowed a total of 2 receptions for 12 yards on 3 targets as the Steelers swept the Bengals. Clearly he will be missed in Pittsburgh as A.J. Green is already salivating thinking about next year’s AFC North clashes.
