Cincinnati Bengals: Looking Back At The 2012 Season – Week 2

Cincinnati receives the second half kickoff and takes the ball eighty yards on seven plays to make the score 24-10. Andy Dalton completes three passes on the drive, a ten yard pass to Green, twenty-two yards to Brandon Tate on second and thirteen, and to complete the scoring drive he hits Brandon Tate again, but this time it is for 44 yards down the right side. The teams exchange punts before the Browns are able to intercept an Andy Dalton pass, and get another touchdown from Trent Richardson. This time Richardson takes a pass from Weeden and goes 23 yards. This brings the third quarter to an end with the Bengals leading 24-17.
The Bengals are able to score on their first possession of the fourth quarter, making it four for four on first drives. Andy Dalton is able to elude a sack and get a ten yard dump pass off to Andrew Hawkins who then takes it 40 yards to the end zone. Cincinnati just cannot seem to pull away from the Browns; leading 31-17 the defense allows another touchdown. Cleveland goes 80 yards on eight plays, capped off by 24 yard touchdown catch from Greg Little. With the score 31-24 Bengals, the teams exchange field goals to close out the scoring and the Bengals winning by the final score of 34-27. After the win Cincinnati is now 1-1 overall and 1-1 in the division.
Though they win the game and score 34 points, the offense needs improvement. Once again on third down they only converted four of twelve and only scored once on three red zone trips. There are good signs for the offense though; Andy Dalton was able to complete passes to six different receivers for 318 yards and three touchdowns while completing eighty percent of his passes. The Bengals will need to improve their third down percentage and red zone efficiency if they hope to have any chance of beating the Washington Redskins and rookie quarterback Robert Griffin III in week 3.
