Andre Smith remains a no-show, and Anthony Collins has been the biggest benefactor, getting reps at both left & right tackle. Perhaps Smith worked a little clause into his new three-year deal that allows him to skip out on this portion of the OTAs. Then again, these are “voluntary” for veterans.
Fifth-round pick Tanner Hawkinson is also working at both tackles with the first-team offensive line. Clearly, the coaching staff is very high on what was viewed by many as the Bengals’ most “questionable” draft selection, but if history is any indicator, Hawkinson may just become this year’s late-round steal that the Bengals seem to have at least one of every year.
Cornerback Adam Jones was seen on the sidelines not practicing with what is believed to be a strained calf, an injury that Jones has had problems with throughout his career.
Tight end Orson Charles continues to get snaps at fullback with Chris Pressley still rehabbing. If Charles performs well enough here during training camp, Pressley could be an unfortunate roster casualty, though when he’s 100%, he’s a an invaluable asset at FB, despite only getting around 30% of the offensive snaps per game.
