At the WR position there is going to be a fight at the end of the depth chart. Brandon Tate will start in the 2nd spot because he looks solid in practice and is the teams kick returner. However if last year proved anything, he offers little as a WR and if another kick returner emerges, Tate may become irrelevant. On the o-line, I think it’s already apparent that the team really likes Tanner Hawkinson and I have a feeling that if Andrew Whitworth needs to rest his knee, Hawkinson will be the first up to replace him. At guard, there is some thought that Travelle Wharton may be listed at the starter but Clint Boling starts at the top.
The center position will be one to watch because I think they are going to give Trevor Robinson a chance to be the starter, but Kyle Cook will start at the top of the depth chart. Reid Fragel may struggle to move up on the depth chart and find a lot of quality reps behind veterans Dennis Roland and Anthony Collins. It looks like Orson Charles is set to focus on more of an H-Back/full back role, look for him to split some first team reps with Chris Pressley.
BJGE and Giovani Bernard are locked at 1-2, Cedric Peerman and Rex Burkhead will fight for 3rd on the depth chart and Dan Herron will fight one of the two for the 4th spot. Finding a new 3rd down running back will also play out in training camp, this is where I believe Burkhead might have a leg up over some of the others. Josh Johnson enters training camp running the second team offense, with John Skelton running the third team, but Skelton should get some opportunities to run the second team.
