Expectations are high for Giovani Bernard, a second-round pick from North Carolina, as many believe he is the best rookie RB prospect, and could be the missing piece to a Cincinnati Bengals offense looking to make the leap into super Bowl contention.

there’s also a lot of expectation that Bernard will have a significant impact in fantasy football this season, and ESPN’s Mel Kiper Jr. ranked him #5 in his list of impact fantasy football rookies:

"5. Giovani Bernard, RB, Cincinnati BengalsCincinnati adds an offensive dimension it hasn’t had in years — a pass-catching threat out of the backfield. Bernard was the most versatile RB in the draft, which makes him a perfect fit for a Cincy offense that didn’t just want a guy with more explosiveness through the hole, but also a screen and dump-off threat for Andy Dalton, who, while an improved deep passer, will need to maximize underneath stuff to reach his full potential."

In his preseason debut last night vs. the Atlanta Falcons, Bernard had 10 carries for 28 yards, including a 1-yard touchdown run. He added three catches for 16 yards.
