The biggest indicator to me that Charles has a slight edge is the special team snaps. That tells me the coaches at least plan on keeping Charles on the roster, and why shouldn’t they? The fourth-rounder out of Georgia last year has shown enough promise up to this point that he at least deserves a roster spot this year.
However, the question remains as to whether it will be as the starting H-back, or if the team opts to keep Conner and keep some semblance of a power-running game. Sean O’Donnell of Bleacher Report did an in-depth breakdown on Conner, and what he adds to the running game. I tend to side with him in his belief that the Bengals need to keep Conner to maintain a respectable running-game, something they’ve lacked in recent years.
My guess to this point is that the team finds a way to keep both Charles and Conner on the roster.
