Latest on Emmanuel Lamur: Bengals bracing for the worst

The Cincinnati Bengals may have lost their best coverage linebacker last night when Emmanuel Lamur dislocated his shoulder and had it pop back into place. While it sounds like a minor injury, the dislocation can actually cause enough damage to the surrounding muscles that the player ends up missing a significant time, and Geoff Hobson said that’s what the Bengals fear right now:

"The worst fear is their best cover linebacker is lost for the year with what head coach Marvin Lewis indicated was a shoulder dislocation when he said it popped out and then back in.But in the football world, a dislocated shoulder isn’t cut and dried and it may take a while to determine if he has to sit out the year or can play with it at some point. In the past, players have played with shoulder dislocations, but not after sitting out about a month."

His injury could lead to rookie linebacker Jayson DiManche securing a roster spot after he entered this week firmly on the bubble, but even he admits it’s a significant loss:

"E-Man can play any position and he’s so smart. It’s a big loss."

Fellow rookie LB J.K. Schaffer admitted just as much:

"I hope he’s all right. He’s an outstanding person and outstanding player and his team needs him. I’ll be praying for Emmanuel. He’s one of my favorite people in the world. I hope he’s all right."

We should have a better idea by day’s end as to how long he’ll be out.
