The Cleveland Browns made it a priority this offseason to significantly upgrade their pass-rush, and they took a big step in doing so when the drafted LSU defensive end Barkevious Mingo with the 6th-overall pick in the 2013 NFL Draft. After a solid training camp and a good start to the preseason, Mingo suffered a bruised lung vs the Detroit Lions, and has been sidelined since.

According to, the Browns won’t have their top draft pick for the opener vs the Miami Dolphins:

"Browns linebacker Barkevious Mingo has been ruled out for the Dolphins game with his bruised lung, coach Rob Chudzinski announced today. He said he doesn’t know about Mingo’s availability for next week in Baltimore. Mingo has been participating in individual drills in practice, but staying away from hitting the sleds or tackling dummies."

In his place, Jabaal Sheard figures to get the majority of snaps. He too was a defensive end that is now playing a linebacker in the team’s new 3-4 scheme under defensive coordinator Ray Horton.
