Is all this Bears history and tradition enough to overcome any weaknesses from all this newness? The Bengals have had a solid preseason and they’ve got greater maturity in many positions when compared to last season’s playoff team. Clearly, both teams hope to dominate on defense yet both have offensive weapons that may be able to overcome those defenses.

Finally, Bengal fans are always wary of the big let down that, often, too quickly follows rising hopes, breathlessly watching each play, cringing at the first sign of a let down. If the Bengals want to play in January, then this team will need to win in September, tarnish that history, spoil the coaches debut, beat the odds makers, and beat the Bears, if only so that its fans can take a breath.
