The most notable cut was Sam Montgomery, a third-round pick out of LSU, who never showed the work ethic or desire to make an impact for the Texans. It didn’t help he was moved to outside linebacker, even though his skill set didn’t translate to outside linebacker as hoped, and he eventually was moved back to defensive end, where Montgomery wasn’t getting any playing time.

Perhaps, Mike Zimmer could light a fire under him and bring the best out of him at DE. The Bengals could theoretically sign him to their practice squad, but they’d probably have to sign him to the 53-man to keep another team from claiming him.
