The Bengals have been battered and bruised on defense his year, and it seems like everyone has either missed a game, or will miss the game Sunday vs the undefeated New England Patriots.
But one player who’s played nearly every snap up to this point, and will be expected to do the same once again Sunday is linebacker Vontaze Burfict. After joining the Bengals last year as an undrafted free agent, Burfict was a fiery young rookie that just went out and led the team in tackles.
He didn’t settle on that, and already in Year 2 on a defense full of former Pro Bowlers, first-rounders and other accolades, Burfict is arguably the team’s most vocal leader, and is even communicating the calls from defensive coordinator Mike Zimmer. That kind of trust from a man who routinely has one of the league’s best defenses tells you how valuable Burfict is to the Bengals, and he’s only begun to scratch the surface.
